I was blessed to have been born into a family where my parents had ambitions for a family band and as a result I inherited the often discarded instruments of my siblings.  I soon learned to encourage my older brother to take up the odd instrument that I secretly hankered after; this strategy worked well for a while and got me started on quite a few instruments.  As I showed more and more interest and promise my parents bought more and more instruments for me; first the trumpet, next the fiddle then came mandolin, banjo , accordion, elec guitar, keyboards, flutes, percussion and so on. 

I started off playing Irish traditional music but soon found myself digressing towards other forms of music.  Whilst I still love and play traditional music I don't consider myself to be strictly a traditional musician per se,  I see myself as a musician who sometimes plays traditional music and sometimes not.  I play and am very comfortable with a wide variety of styles but specailise in playing folk instruments (often in a non folky way:-). I do lots of string arranging as well as programming on my mac.

My instruments have taken me to many places I might not have had a chance to visit, everywhere from USA to Siberia, Kazikstan, Moscow, Syria.

I've had the privellege of performing, recording and collaborating with the likes of (amongst others) Lisa Knapp, Shane McGowan and The Popes, Van Morrison, Laurie Anderson, Christy Moore, Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin, The Stoaters, The Memory Band, Youth and Sin é.
