I've been recording and producing music since the late eighties (I started very young) and was fortunate enough to have had the experience of working with tape before working in a computer based enviroment.
I love old gear and I also love the convenience and speed of the digital realm.
Producing has been a very natural progression for me and it allows me to work on a more macro level of expression. I enjoy playing "God" with sounds and can never imagine myself not wanting to do what I do.
Quite a lot of the projects I've produced have involved me playing (always by request!...sometimes quite extensively) on the recordings :-) I'm also very comfortable directing and supervising sessions which don't include me as a performer:-) I enjoy creating a performance scenario which puts performers at ease whilst stretching them (ever so gently) at the same time.
In 2007 I produced Lisa Knapp's album 'Wild and Undaunted' (Ear to the Ground Records) . The album was Mojo Folk Album of the year (2007) and was nominated for BBC2 Folk Awards as well as being No1 HMV Choice.
Recent projects have saw me working in a production role with great artists such as Paul Heaton (Beautiful South, Housemartins), Christy Moore, Le Chéile, Justin Currie (Del Amitri), Alasdair Roberts, Naomi Bedford, J Eoin
